About the role

 

Reporting to the Communications Supervisor the primary purpose of the Communications Technician is to provide communications systems support to Atlas Iron users on a day to day basis and to assist with regular maintenance of ICT communications equipment and systems. This is a 8/6 FIFO roaming role in the Pilbara working between all our remote operations and port facilities.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Facilitate maintenance and monitoring of all site radio infrastructure and ancillary equipment.
  • Respond and rectify faults and failing services for all site communications infrastructure.
  • Conduct inspections, scheduled maintenance, installation, and breakdown for part of Mine communications networks includes Satellite, Fibre Network and Analog radio.
  • Optimisation of communications systems and ancillary services.
  • Ensure activities undertaken are aligned with meeting the department’s strategic requirement and include operational requirements which are monitored, assessed and varied from time to time.
  • Maintain stock levels on critical spares and consumables, place order requests when required.
  • Programme TETRA radios when required and manage in the system.
  • Work with the Communications lead to schedule and coordinate installation and maintenance of works required. Perform routine site audits and diagnose identified faults in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Communications lead is kept informed at all times of any activities that have the potential to impact operations.
  • Assist with commissioning and start-up of new installation.

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • Trade level qualifications in Radio Communications, Electronics or relevant experience.
  • Significant experience across Communications and Electronic systems including DAMM TETRA Radio Systems, VHF &UHF Systems, Analogue radio systems, GPON networks, optical fibre networks, Cisco networking equipment, CCTV & a sound knowledge of IP Network configuration.
  • Experience on fault finding and troubleshooting on various communication systems.
  • Experience in remote mining and haulage operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients and associates at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive approach, with the ability to work in very remote areas without supervision and make independent informed decisions that will not affect operations.
  • Work safely with a key focus on ensuring your own personal safety when working alone in remote areas.
  • Extremely organised individual with the ability to juggle multiple tasks while effectively and efficiently managing your own output.
  • Flexible in approach with an adaptive style to suit changing workplace requirements.
  • Current Australian C Class manual drivers licence
  • Working at Heights ticket and EWP License (desirable)
