About the role

 

Reporting into the Superintendent Environment and Approvals, the primary purpose of the role is to lead Atlas's environmental compliance across all operational sites. This involves the detailed management and implementation of environmental compliance work packages to ensure our operations adhere to the highest environmental standards and regulations. The individual in this role will provide expert site-specific input for environmental approvals applications and management plans, contributing to their effectiveness and accuracy while working a FIFO roster of 8 days on / 6 days off.   

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Manage the execution and upkeep of the Environmental Management System for operational sites. This comprises managing environmental management plans, monitoring plans, environmental procedures, legal obligations, commitment registers, risk registers, and activity planners, ensuring a comprehensive and effective environmental oversight is in place.
  • Regularly review and update environmental policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure they reflect current regulations and industry standards.
  • Facilitate the preparation and submission of necessary environmental reports, permits, and approval applications in a timely manner.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and community representatives as required to ensure Environmental compliance obligations are met
  • Coordinate and oversee environmental audits, assessments, and inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented where necessary.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of environmental control systems and suggest improvements when required.
  • Ensure integration of environmental considerations in project planning and operational decision-making processes.
  • Implement and oversee environmental training and awareness programs to increase staff understanding of environmental obligations and best practices.
  • Maintain environmental compliance across Operational sites and act as the lead compliance point of contact for Operations.
  • Provide technical support to Operational Environmental Advisors, including report reviews and management planning.
  • Assist with communicating environmental awareness and management processes across the business.
  • Support the delivery of approvals documents, including input to and review of technical environmental reports, environmental management plans, and environmental assessment documentation.
  • Provide input to corporate approvals records and reports.

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • Environmental Science Degree (or equivalent)
  • Lead Auditor qualifications – Environmental Management Systems (desirable)
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated industry experience in an Advisor –   Environmental Compliance role or a comparable position within the mining sector.
  • Proven experience working in remote locations and on active mine sites.
  • Proficiency in ISO14001 and environmental management techniques, systems, and tools, including monitoring, inspections, and auditing, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in applying environmental legislation, including the EP Act, EPBC Act, and Mining Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, and supervise multiple contractors and surveys.
  • Experience with operational site activities complemented by strong report writing skills
